Oluyinka Akinjiola’s Quiet Strength is a tribute to civil right activism. From the silent strength to the vocal outcries of the Underground Railroad to Barack Obama, Oluyinka explores United States history from the black woman’s perspective.
Michael Galen’s A Light of Hope seeks to explore the journey from oppression to awareness, community, and ultimately resistance. The choreography draws movement from Bboying, Palo, KRUMP and Stepping for their roots in resistance, confrontation, trauma release and community strengthening.
